Study for previous life - The work with korean ink that has been carried out since 2009 used the one-time and coincidental quality of the ink stick to organically express the space, dot, and lines of the background This was based on Orientalism to suggest that life forms including trees, animals, and even human are all parts of nature. However, these ideas and subjects were cliché, so I tried to grapple the concept that can well express ink-and-wash paintings. Then I came across a medical documentary that dealt with genetics. The content is that the previous knowledge was our genes were metastasized innately, but the recent discovery showed that acquired metastasis is also taking place. For example, the descendents of those who experienced Auschwitz camp or 9.11 terrorist attack had higher rate of low body weight or disease emergence. What we can see from this example is that humans are sensitive beings that are viviparously affected by natural phenomenons or wars. As such, we are living systematic lives where we are bound to be unconscously affected by the surrounding environment, and we also affect others. I percieve myself as the result of the work of the past mankind, but also the future self. With this reason, I selected animals that might have affected each other, long back in history, and those who influenced me to be what I am, to paint a composite figure. Additionally, I used sides and lines of unclear origin in ink-and-wash paintings with one figure. For reference, I was born in the Year of the Monkey.
